section 1

What is 'the Creator Commons'

The Creator Commons is a peer-hosted support group for small to medium-sized YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram creators (0 - 500,000 subscribers / followers) in Austin, TX. Share strategies, troubleshoot problems, and get feedback on things like... getting your content pushed out by the algorithm, turning casual viewers into subscribed fans, doing paid collabs with brands, other ways to monetize your audience (courses, memberships, affiliate links, sponsorships, merch, etc.), getting booked on podcasts in your niche, and a bunch of other creator-related topics.

Section 2 - Who is The Creator Commons for

Section 2

Who is The Creator Commons for

The Creator Commons is for anyone growing a YouTube channel, TikTok account, or Instagram account (for work, for fun, or as a passion project). Whether you’re creating content on fitness, beauty, comedy, finance, AI, music production, or an extremely niche subject that you're super passionate about... The Creator Commons is the place to connect with other creators who are all trying to grow an engaged audience and navigate the many different obstacles & challenges that come up along the way.

You'll fit right in if you're friendly, outgoing, growth-minded, self-motivated, down to earth, and genuinely happy for your friends when they succeed. In terms of eligibility to join the group, we do not care how many subscribers/followers you currently have. We DO care that you have a growth mindset and are the type of person that is going to be a positive presence in the group.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Creator Commons is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years of age to join. For more info on requirements, make sure you watch the video in Section 4.

section 3 - Why we created The Creator Commons

section 3

Why we created the Creator Commons

We created this support group because we believe the more you surround yourself with like-minded people on a similar path, the more likely you are to break through the barriers that might cause other people to quit. Imagine getting specific feedback whenever you feel stuck or getting a little extra encouragement when you have a temporary setback or something doesn't go exactly as planned. It makes a huge difference. Learn together, grow together, better together.

section 4 - Member meetups (Interactive)

Section 4

member meetups (interactive)

The Creator Commons meetups are structured to help you... 1) meet new members, 2) get feedback on whatever you need help with, and 3) become a smarter YouTube/TikTok/Instagram creator. You can expect things like name tags, icebreakers, and rotating peer group activities & roundtables designed to help facilitate new introductions and make meeting other creators in the group feel as natural as possible. The intention is to create a setup that gets people talking to each other & sharing ideas (as opposed to just sitting around hoping others introduce themselves).

You can think of the meetups as an anchor resource that's there for you whenever you have specific questions you need help with, want to sharpen your skills & mindset, or just want to connect with other creators in the area. We'll have a set schedule of in-person meetups as well as some occasional virtual hangouts using Zoom Breakout Rooms.

The meetups are the opposite of a lecture. They're all about connecting & interacting with other creators in the area. section 5 - Member Perks & Resources

Section 5

member perks & resources

Aside from the main meetups, members of the group also get access to the following side perks & resources ...

Group Hangouts: These are planned & impromptu get-togethers (dinners, Top Golf, ice cream socials, football watch parties, etc.) for members to socialize and get to know each other better outside of the main meetups. Why? Because the best insights ("aha moments") often happen in casual conversation when people are just hanging out & having a good time.

Skool Group: Skool is an iOS & Android app that's designed to help connect people who are learning a specific subject. When you join a "Skool Group" it's just like joining a Facebook Group but without all the spam. It has member profiles, posts & comment threads, leaderboards, event calendar, linked Zoom hangouts, etc. Use it to get feedback outside of meetups and to stay updated on upcoming events.

Support Buddies: Based on the answers you provide on your New Member Approval Form, we'll help match you with a support buddy who is similar to you in terms of skill level, interests, and or creative intentions. You can use your support buddy to bounce ideas off of outside of meetups and or to help hold each other accountable on goals you set. All support buddies are same-gender. (We may match you with an extra support buddy in the future as new members join. You can also opt out of being matched with a support buddy if you so choose.)

Nationwide Creator Commons Skool Group: As a member of the Austin-area Creator Commons you'll get access to the nationwide Creator Commons Skool Group. Connect with other YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram creators across the nation right from your smartphone. Member posts & comment threads, helpful resources, full member profile directory so you have contacts you can reach out to whenever you travel, and a growing knowledge base right at your finger tips. Coming in 2026.

Onboarding For New Members: We know attending your first meetup can be intimidating, especially if you don't know anyone in the group yet. That's why we offer an optional 15-20 minute new member orientation via Zoom. You can use the Zoom session to ask any specific questions you might have, get a better idea of what to expect, and meet someone before you attend your first in-person meetup (so there's a familiar face you can look for at your first meetup). It's completely optional but highly recommended. Once you get approved, we'll send you a welcome email with info on how to schedule it.

section 6 - Member Rules & Standards

Section 6

member rules & standards

The Creator Commons is designed to be flexible and used as a resource. That means there are no hard time commitments for events or membership overall (you can come & go from events in a way that fits your schedule). Having said that, there are 3 rules you must comply with in order to gain & maintain eligibility. These are non-negotiable standards for everyone in the group ...

1. Don't Kill the Vibe: This means be a source of positivity, encourage your peers, and have fun. No politics, no spamming, no harassment. Any behavior detrimental to the fun/friendly/supportive culture of the group will simply not be tolerated.

2. Keep Your Input & Feedback Constructive: It's ok to have differing opinions & disagree with your peers (friendly debate is even encouraged). Just make sure you keep your input & feedback constructive & respectful. If you don't know how to disagree respectfully, this support group is not for you.

3. Be respectful of Host Venues:  Always be considerate & respectful of the host venues for any of the meetups and or events. That includes venue staff. Never leave trash or damage property.

These rules will be enforced so if you don't agree with them, please do not attempt to join. Repeated and or severe violations of any of these rules will result in getting banned from future meetups & events.

section 7 - how to get started [get approved]

Section 7

how to get started [get approved]

We are currently filling spots for the Austin-area pilot group. A "pilot group" is the initial test group that helps set the foundation for future members (helps establish group culture, makes suggestions on ways to improve flow of the meetups, irons out any unforeseen issues that may come up, etc.). As a pilot member, you'll get free lifetime access to the group, including free lifetime access to the nationwide Creator Commons Skool Group ($47/month fee gets waived).

If you're interested in being a part of the pilot group, you must fill out a New Member Approval Form. This form will help us understand your skill level, personality type, and creative intentions so that we can put you in the appropriate peer feedback groups at meetups and match you with a support buddy when you join.

Before you fill out a form, please keep in mind that to be eligible you must be an adult (18+ only), actively growing an account on at least one of the platforms mentioned (YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram), and agree to follow the rules listed in Section 6. Once we have a good mix of initial applicants, we'll send out emails to selected pilot members with information on meetups, how to access member resources, and how to schedule the optional orientation session.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the limited number of spots for the pilot group, we will go on a "first come, first served" basis assuming you meet the basic requirements and standards. (If you get waitlisted, we'll send you an email when you are able to schedule your orientation and start attending meetups. We are intentionally starting small and slowly increasing the number of members in order to preserve the quality of the group and meetups. Thanks for your patience & understanding.)

section 8 - support & frequently asked questions

Section 8

support & frequently asked questions

If you have any questions, make sure you check out the FAQs below or you can send an email to info@thecreatorcommons.com (usually responds within 1-2 business days).

Is there a minimum number of subscribers/followers that I need to have to join?

No. As long as you identify with the characteristics mentioned in Section 2 (friendly, outgoing, growth-minded, etc.), and willing to follow the rules, you're welcome to apply.

I wouldn’t consider myself a “YouTuber” per se but I am growing a YouTube channel. Can I still apply to join?

Yes. As long as you’re growing a YouTube channel, TikTok account, or Instagram account (especially if it's something you're passionate about), you're welcome to apply.

I'm only growing a YouTube channel, not a TikTok or an Instagram. Can I still join?

Yes. You just need to be in the process of growing an audience on at least one of them (YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram), not all three.

Can The Creator Commons help me grow my podcast?

Yes. Both YouTube & TikTok are great for discoverability because of the way their algorithms work. Many podcasters cut up clips of their podcast just for YouTube & TikTok with the intention of driving listeners to "go listen to full podcast episodes" on platforms like Spotify & Apple Podcasts.

Can I invite my friends to the in-person meetups?

They would need to get approved first. (We require approval in order to preserve the quality of the group and keep out any potential bad actors.) If you know someone who you think might be interested, you're welcome to invite them to apply.

When and where are the meetups?

The Austin-area meetups will be held at the University of Texas with specific dates, times, and location details to be announced to approved members.

What happens at meetups?

The meetups are mainly composed of rotating peer group activities & roundtables designed to help you: 1) meet new members, 2) get feedback on whatever you need help with, and 3) become a smarter YouTube/TikTok/Instagram creator.

Is there a dress code for meetups?

Casual. No tuxedos necessary.

What are the "group hangouts" and how are they different from the main meetups?

The "group hangouts" are informal get-togethers (dinners, top golf, ice cream, etc.) for members to socialize and get to know each other better. Whereas the main meetups are intentionally structured to facilitate skill sharing & peer feedback, the hangouts are a lot more about socializing & mingling in general.

What is the "Skool Group" and how does it work?

It's an IOS & android app that functions just like a Facebook Group with member posts and comment threads. Use it whenever you have questions or need feedback outside of the meetups and to stay updated on upcoming events.

Are there any member fees/dues?

No. There may be fees for new members in the future but if you join when it's free, it will always be free for you.

I don't know anyone in The Creator Commons. Can I still apply to join?

Yes. As long as you identify with the characteristics mentioned in Section 2 (friendly, growth-minded, self-motivated, etc.) and plan on growing a YouTube channel, TikTok account, or Instagram account, you're welcome to apply. Once you join the group, we'll help you get connected with other members who are similar to you so you don't feel isolated.

I really want to join but I have a busy/unpredictable schedule. Are there any time commitments I should be aware of?

The Creator Commons is a resource, not an obligation. As long as you follow the rules, you are free to come and go from events in a way that fits your schedule.

What is the new member orientation?

It's an informal 15-20 minute Zoom session so that we can get to know you a little better, especially in terms of what you're trying to accomplish on YouTube or TikTok. You can use the session to ask any questions you might have. It's optional but highly recommended.

Why the waitlist? How does it work?

The waitlist is to help control for the number of new members at the in-person meetups. (If there are too many new members, it might mess up the flow of the meetups.) If you get waitlisted, we'll send you an email when you can schedule your orientation and start attending meetups. Thanks for your patience.

I applied but haven’t been approved what should I do?

You can follow up on the status of your New Member Approval Form by sending an email to info@thecreatorcommons.com.

I’m interested in volunteering or sponsoring an event. Who can I contact?

You can send an email to info@thecreatorcommons.com.

section 9 - collaboration opens doors

Section 9

collaboration opens doors

If you ever get a chance to talk to any content creators who do it full-time, you'll probably find that many of them grew their social media following alongside other like-minded content creators or business peers they could bounce ideas off of. Anything from simple creator group chats (which used to be called "engagement groups" back in the day) to more formal business masterminds (like a support group for entrepreneurs).

It usually goes something like this... a late night strategy get-together with friends might turn into an idea for a cross collaboration or joint venture (collaborative business project), which might then turn into a long-term business partnership or creators living together for a summer to make content (e.g. an "influencer house" sponsored by a brand).

That's not to say you have to do any of that to be successful (everyone has their own path & interests), it's just to point out that the more you surround yourself with like-minded people, the more opportunities you create for yourself. Collaboration opens doors in ways that are not always obvious at first. The key is to get out of your comfort zone, put yourself out there, and see what kind of serendipity you create. So if you're ready to take that first step, make some new friends, and create new opportunities for yourself, [click here] to fill out a New Member Approval Form and let's start creating together.
